C. Pearl Cares, Inc. is a Federally Tax Exempt 501c3 Nonprofit Organization founded by Margaret King Brewer, along with her brother, LeRoy C. King, III, in honor of their mother, Cynthia Pearl White Umble, who transitioned in June of 2019.
Both Margaret and LeRoy, were the primary caregivers for their mother who suffered a stroke in 2014. Thier lives quickly changed in a dramatic way. This was all new territory for them. They had no training for such an enormous task. Neither of them had “Caregiving” in their 5-year plan, but yet there they were finding themselves quickly in unchartered territory.
They both immediately began the daunting task of being Caregivers. It was on the job training for sure. They had to learn how to navigate in-home caregivers, doctor appointments, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, prescriptions, meal planning, medical equipment and supplies, grocery shopping, laundry, relocating, Medicare and Medicaid requirements along with the staggering amount of paperwork that would come along with it, and so much more!!
They had to learn how to juggle all of this while working their own 9 to 5 jobs and still managing their own families and lives in general. Caring for a loved one is ROUGH, to say the least.
When someone is functioning as a Caregiver, it is very easy to forget about caring for yourself.
This is why Margaret and LeRoy wanted to create an organization that would focus on Caring for the Caregiver.
What are the needs, you may ask? There are many needs from respite hours, someone to help navigate the Medicare/Medicaid system, assistance with meal prep, housecleaning, laundry services, assistance with obtaining equipment and supplies needed for their loved one, transportation, grocery shopping, and therapy are just a few of the needs that a caregiver can have.
It is their desire to partner with agencies, organizations, as well as other individuals that have their same passion. They gained a whole new respect for all caregivers through their personal journey, and they would love to help.
Do not misunderstand, even though the assignment was heavy, if they had it to do all over again, they most certainly would. It was a great honor to take care of their mother! It is their prayer that they honor their mom’s legacy by helping others navigate this difficult space. May she rest in Heavenly peace!!
Now let us go out and Care for the Caregivers who are definitely, “Angels on Earth”!!!
